Uncommon Research Services

Update: In 2019 I closed Uncommon Research Services. I will leave this up tho for reference. Uncommon Research Services' core business is performing expert custom online searches to find 'difficult to locate' parts and technical documents for client use in new electronic product development, patent issues including infringement, identifying intellectual property breaches online, and performing other technical gigs.

Most projects include a report about findings and any supportive documents and websites.

Uncommon Research Services is located in the Greater Seattle Area.

Client Projects:

. Hawk Owl Systems....located parts and available technology for a sat-transmitter design in R&D for bird migratory research. This product would attach to a bird, gather data and GPS information to send to an Argos satellite twice a day. Technology examined includes: oscillators, PLL devices, phase modulation, filtering, tuning, data bit-stream, RF amplifiers, low power semiconductors, transmitter ICs, chip sets, etc.

. Intellectual Ventures....Completed 9 high profile projects covering specific electronic hardware and software. Findings were used to enforce patents and configure acquisition, valuation and validity decisions. Findings included hard to find manuals, company agreements and relationships, specifications, collateral, datasheets, drawings, etc. Spreadsheets were used to list findings and each datum was rated using a custom datum rating scale. Specific details of these projects are under NDA and IV copyright and restricted from further discussion.

. Taref Moneif AlShammari USPTO Patent Application: US20150181847 A1 Fishing Capsules...through Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, LLP and the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission. I had guided Taref through the patent process, interpretations, and worked on issues about the product design that needed to be addressed. The patent was published/awarded by the USPTO on April 5, 2016 with the following patent number: US 9301512 B2 .

. Satcom metamaterials antenna product company (start-up, company undisclosed) - an analysis of publicly-searchable and available IP findings and trade secrets were being exposed by a third party and internal company staff. Affected company was alerted of the breach and after a year they put in the necessary security measures to restrict access. Findings research was gathered from 2013 to 2014. The detailed report was completed by 2018 as it was quite complex.

Tech Gigs

. Gala Industries...GOST regulation navigation report for the company to use to gain GOST certification of their underwater pelletizing systems to ship to customers in the Russian Federation and in countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

. Pendo.io...overall website design review at the request of their marketing department.

. Kifi.com....as a Kifi Insider, since April 2015, gave requested reviews on advanced updates and features before implemented on their website (Kifi announced in July 2016 they are closing their webiste as their team was acquired by Google to work in their new "Spaces" software)

. Peruse.io....did website review of the site functionality and wrote suggested FAQ questions for use on the new NLP (natural language processing) search engine for use in searching specific data in complex multi-page spreadsheets, emails and other cloud stored files.

. Private Client, Bellingham, WA - retired U.S. Naval Officer...provided information toward securing VA approval for treating hearing loss suffered from large gun noise on naval ship while serving in the Korean War.

Company Mountain Scene
On the left is Mt. Powell (10,164-ft) and over to the right of the ridge is Deer Mountain Lodge (9765-ft). See the view looking northwesterly here ....and in-between them is "The Crater". You can view these beautiful mountains off I-90 in Galen, Montana. They are especially gorgeous to see a little after winter when they still have snow on them.
